What is the Rebound Liberia Academy?

The Rebound Liberia Academy started in March 2020 as a weekly skill intensive after school basketball program to help over 40 high school girls improve. Unfortunately it only ran for 2 weeks and was canceled due to nationwide shutdown as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. We successfully launched the inaugural Academy in March 2021 followed by the 2022 Academy which will run from March 2022 - June 2022.

Purpose of the RL Academy

Basketball serves as more than an extracurricular activity. Sports play a valuable role in the development of young girls and the advancement of women as leaders in society. It allows girls to develop positive qualities that they will carry throughout life. The girls learn important skills such as:

  • The Fundamentals of basketball (dribbling, defense, shooting, rebounding, passing, etc.)

  • Discipline

  • Positive work ethics

  • Confidence building

  • The ability to face the challenges of adolescence

  • Values such as teamwork
